A       huge crowd of supporters travelled to Clonmel to give both teams the credit they deserve in reaching this stage of the league unbeaten and contribute to a great game but unfortunately not the result we would have wanted. The game opened at a cracking pace and both sides were flexing their muscle up front and the visitors were getting the upper hand. It was pressure being created upfront that was creating the opportunities for the forwards to carry and make the hard yards. It was this continuous pressure that gave NCW a penalty on the thirteenth minute that was converted by Sean Herlihy. It continued in this vain for long periods and although Clonmel were getting possession from there lineout the visitors defence was holding strong being anchored and guided by Stephen Kelly and Sean Neville. Try as Clonmel might they were finding it difficult to break the defence. In the thirty third minute a kick ahead from Clonmel was gathered by Rossa Dooley who was tackled in the air and a penalty kick down the line saw a missed touch but the Clonmel fullback kicked to touch and only gained a few metres. A rare secured lineout ball by Gary O Donnell and the forward began to move forward with Dave Foley, Declan Moloney making the hard strides forward, James Kelly appeared from the wing to support and a great off load to Murley Sheehan and a try converted by Sean was the result of a great effort. With the score now 0-10 and the visitors in Control the half time whistle would be welcome. However with a minute to go to half time a very harsh yellow card given to our wing forward was to play a significant role in the outcome of the game. If the first half was all NCW, Clonmel took the game by the scruff and would be rewarded with 19 points in the next sixteen minutes to a penalty for Sean. The game had now turned from a 10 point lead to 6 points behind in a horror period for the visitors. There was still a long time to go and a number of changes of personnel got us back in to the game, Sean got a penalty on seventy minutes to close the gap to 3 and the spirit of the team was excellent at this stage and it was looking like we could get the win. Within two minutes of Sean closing the gap Clonmel again scored a penalty to take the score to 22-6. NCW now threw everything in to attack and but did not get over for a score despite a huge effort by their pack and backline, again showing great character at the end. Thank you to all who travelled to what was a great game of rugby, this league is not over yet and I am sure there will be some twists and turns along the road. The saga continues next Sunday in Cullinagh when we play Kinsale. To both players and supporters we have travelled a great road together so far this year,
